The 2012 season was nothing short of awful for New York Jets
quarterback Tim Tebow who saw limited action and was passed over twice in the
final two games for the starting spot. I
was rather surprised to see how this turned out, and even more so surprised
that Tebow was never considered to start.
I have never seen a quarterback with so much hype and
attention be treated the way he was this past season, and now I don’t even know
that he will be on an NFL roster next season.
It is tough for me to say that because he took a 1-4 Bronco team in 2011
to the playoffs going 7-4 down the stretch and then beating the Steelers in the
playoffs. I think that actually hurt his
reputation because now you see someone with a playoff win against a proven team
and also a great leader who also happens to be a problem for any team he is on.
No matter where he goes he is either the starter or just isn’t,
he wants to start, he is to much a big named player and great guy for anyone to
ignore. You saw what happened in New
York this past season when fans were calling for Sanchez’s head and were
chanting Tebow’s name, and I think that hurt Mark. If he was to go anywhere else such as Oakland
or Kansas City the same thing would happen, but that is uncertain because both
teams seem fine with their quarterbacks.
The other issue aside from the celebrity persona that he has
is the fact that he cannot run a traditional NFL drop back pass offense, this
is true, in Denver they had to build a whole new offense around Tebow after
Orton was benched. A team would have to
be willing to get all the necessary pieces around him and also make an offense
fit for him, which would be something like a spread option and pistol
formation. Sadly that would not last
long, he would take a beating and defenses would pick up on the offense quickly
due to his limited throwing abilities.
I just do not know if any team would do that, and the team
that was really looking at him is no longer interested, Jacksonville said he is
not in their future plans.
My thoughts are that he will not be on an NFL roster in 2013
and will have to go to Canada and play in the CFL and work on his play in order
to convince a team that he is worth a starting job.
